Kedarnath
Kedarnath is a town and Nagar Panchayat in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, India, best known for the sacred Kedarnath Temple. It is located about 86 kilometres from Rudraprayag, the district headquarters, and is the most remote of the four Chota Char Dham pilgrimage sites.
According to legend, the Pandavas performed penance in Kedarnath to please Lord Shiva. The temple is one of the four major sites in India’s Chota Char Dham pilgrimage of the Northern Himalayas and is also the first of the Panch Kedar pilgrimage sites. Among the 12 Jyotirlingas, the Kedarnath Temple holds the distinction of being situated at the highest altitude.
